My name is Allen Domaas. I started at Vincent Massey in September 1963 having waited an extra year as the school board had moved Grade Seven to the elementary schools in late 1961. Queen Elizabeth was a small school so it was with some fear that I boarded the bus to Vincent Massey and the fear was not unjustified. Massey was HUGE! Being naive, it was not long before I gave out the combination to my locker to a neighbouring locker holder only to find I had been locked out and my stuff was now in a different locker as his friend had now usurped my original locker. Lesson learned, be careful with folks you don't know.
As the Vincent Massey morphed in Massey/Pearson we Grade 10's found ourselves making the wet and cold walk to Pearson for the odd class as the overhead walkway was under construction. My grandkids tell me the overhead had a reputation for being a nervous walk, but in 1967 it was a dream come true. With the overhead completed the name changed to NWSS and new traditions were born.
Looking back at teachers they were a mixed bag. Some amazing, some odd, some fearsome, some lovable, but all dedicated to education....in their own way. Mr. Demert (sp?) had a reputation for being "tough: but what an awesome "teacher." I was delighted years later when my daughter had him for the same Math 10 course I had and she also succeeded with his teaching and support.
Keep safe and healthy!
Allen
