MP Jake Sawatzky Introduces Himself to City Council.

At the New Westminster City Council meeting of July 7, 2025, the new Member of Parliament for the City introduced himself....Jake Sawatzky. Mr. Sawatzky represents the Riding of New Westminster-Burnaby and Maillardville. As a candidate representing the Liberals in the recent federal riding, he is taking over from long-time MP for New Westminster-Burnaby, Peter Julian. As House Leader for and key figure in the New Democratic Party, he had been the federal representative for over 20 years. Mr. Sawatzky explained that he is on the Finance Committee of the new government, an associate member of the Health Committee, and part of the Youth, Technology and Health Caucuses. He emphasized his desire to collaborate with community members, indigenous leaders, and City Council. The councillors welcomed him and indicated that there were many fronts where federal funding would be appreciated. His constituency office is now up and running at 888 Carnarvon, he explained, with talented people to help out. Within a month, his office will move uptown.
